DENZIL KITCHEN, pictured here in 1920, started his motor business in 1928.
Mr Kitchen was well known for his successful stints racing small, fast MG and Riley sports cars.
Originally, the business operated from Colne before moving to Burnley.
In 1971, the Blackadder family took over and were already well known in Burnley.
The family already ran a textile business, Howorth's in Nelson, still open today.
In the 1980s, Kitchen's was involved in the price wars of furl and motor oil.
At the time, Kitchen's were selling the cheapest furl in the whole of Europe.
Journalists reported it widely as many formed queues to fill up on the lowest fuel, but this caused some hostilities between them and other filling stations.
A rival company was bought out by the Gulf organisation, diminishing the threat.
