New signing Leandro Trossard marked his debut with an instant goal as Albion began life under Graham Potter with an eventful victory in Austria.
The former Genk left-winger scored as soon as he was brought on as part of 11 changes for the second half against FC Liefering at the Sportzplatz Bischofshofen.
The Seagulls won 5-2 after leading 3-2 at the break, Lewis Dunk, Glenn Murray and Jurgen Locadia scoring for the first half X1 and Alireza Jahanbakhsh providing two assists in the second half.
Trossard controlled a Jahanbakhsh cross at the far post and fired home to stretch Albion's advantage in the 47th minute.
Another right-wing cross by Jahanbakhsh was headed home powerfully by the diving Florin Andone six minutes from time.
The second half line-up included Fulham transfer target Anthony Knockaert.
Potter used the 4-2-3-1 formation he favours in both halves, with Pascal Gross then Jahanbakhsh in the No.10 role.
Under-23s Steve Alzate and Max Sanders had 45 minutes each in midfield and at right-back respectively.
Albion first half (4-2-3-1): Button; Montoya, Burn, Dunk, Suttner; Alzate, Stephens; March, Gross, Locadia; Murray.
Albion second half (4-2-3-1): Walton; Sanders, Duffy, Clarke, Bernardo; Propper, Kayal; Knockaert, Jahanbakhsh, Trossard; Andone.
