Inspector James Sullivan, from Oxford police station, said: "We would like to reassure the public that an arrest has been made in connection with this incident.

Pegasus Road was closed as a convoy of police cars swooped in on the estate, with buses having to divert, but it had reopened by 4.30pm.

Dog handlers also attended the scene, which residents said was near the bus terminal.

Three days earlier, a 24-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

Police said this was in connection with an 'incident involving a machete' in Windale Avenue, which happened in a 'busy' spot during the afternoon.

Windale Primary School is located in the street, but police have not yet confirmed if the incident happened during school hours.
