OXFORDSHIRE commuters have been delayed after a person was hit by a train near Southall. 

All lines have since reopened, but delays are expected to continue for a short time. 

The condition of the person involved has not been officially confirmed, but other media reports have suggested that they died. 

Great Western Rail said the incident took place between Reading and London Paddington.

A number of services between London and Oxford were impacted this afternoon but delays now appear to be easing.  

Network Rail spokeswoman Emily Maiden said: “Network Rail staff attended an incident at Southall at around 1pm this afternoon. British Transport Police officers were also in attendance along with staff from London Ambulance Service.

"All lines were closed until 3.24pm, however some services may be disrupted this afternoon therefore please check before travelling.”

Meanwhile, the Oxford Mail travel feed reported that a vehicle had hit a bridge at Pangbourne, near Reading, causing delays on Cross Country Services.

Normal service has resumed between Oxford and Reading, according to the feed
