A SPECIALIST college for creative media courses has scrapped plans to close.

SAE Institute Oxford, based in Littlemore, announced last year that it would close in 2020 due to dwindling demand from students.

However, having reassessed its sustainability after a change in situation, it has decided to stay open.

Steffan Davies, general manager of SAE Institute UK, said: "Recent regulatory change means that our accelerated degrees are now fully-funded for eligible UK and EU students via Student Finance England, removing the previous barrier of top-up fees.

"SAE wants to be the creative media education provider of choice in the region and our focus continues to be on delivering the best possible experiences and outcomes for our students."

SAE Institute offers accredited creative media programmes at more than 50 campuses in 23 countries, and has its headquarters in Oxford.

SAE UK has been approved by the Office for Students to register for its 'approved fee cap' category, meaning it is eligible to apply for certain public grant funding.

Mr Davies added: "There has also been significant changes to the local landscape, with improved transport links to the campus in Littlemore Park, and with Oxfordshire identified as a high growth cluster in the creative industries sector.

"This translates to strong industry connections for our local students and great employment prospects for graduates. It’s a great outcome for students, graduates, staff and the local creative media industry."

It will continue to recruit students into its creative media degree and diploma programmes from September 2019 onwards.
