ABOUT 1,000 exhibits rolled back the years as a vintage fair returned to Oxfordshire.

The West Oxon Steam & Vintage Show took over Ducklington Showground at the weekend for a two-day extravaganza of cars, bikes, tractors and more.

Exhibits came from as far afield as Cumbria, Cornwall, Kent and even Holland, as enthusiasts streamed into the event, near Witney, on Saturday and Sunday.

The show has moved around since it started more than 20 years ago, but Eamon Bull, chair of the Wychwood District Vintage Club, which runs the event, said it was going from strength to strength.

He said: "At the start we were told we'd never get it off the ground but we've persevered and got it to this size.

"It gets bigger every year and we're now probably one of the biggest in the country."

The star attraction was the working arena, which featured everything from tractors to machinery from the 'good old days'.

A range of stunning traction engines caught the eye, as did motorbikes and cars from more than 100 years ago.

Meanwhile, up to 1,000 people packed into the beer tent to watch Oxford ska band, The Inflatables.

Ducklington was the home of the original Witney Vintage Rally, which was first held in 1991 but folded six years later.

After rallies in Burford and Shipton-under-Wychwood, the committee was offered the showground, but events in 2007, 2008 and 2009 were hit by bad weather and other issues.

The event will use an even greater portion of the venue next year after 'outgrowing' its current space, Mr Bull explained.
