MORE stores are set to close at a Witney shopping centre.

Dorothy Perkins and the Wallis and Evans stores are set to shut at Marriotts Walk 'in the coming months', it is being reported.

All of the stores are part of Arcadia Group, which staved off collapse in June with a rescue plan involving shutting 50 stores and 1,000 job losses.

Centre manager, Simon Jones, confirmed the closures are set to go ahead but could not add anything more at this stage.

The announcement comes after Debenhams announced in April that it would close its Marriotts Walk store in 2020 after the company went into administration.

Several independent businesses in Witney have also shut their doors in recent months, with changing shopping patterns and high business rates among the reasons given by owners.

Well-known businesses including Rosa Flowers, on Wesley Walk, and Keates of Witney's menswear section have already closed in 2019.

Since April 1, more than 350 eligible firms in West Oxfordshire have been automatically granted the new Retail Rate Discount, which cuts retailers’ rates by a third if they have a rateable value of £51,000 or less.

Marriotts Walk and Arcadia Group have been contacted for comment.
