THAMES Valley Police have been given £1.16m from the government to tackle violent crime.

The money has been given to the police and crime commissioner, Anthony Stansfeld, to set up a 'violence reduction unit' – which will bring together police, the local government, health and community leaders.

The roll out of Boris Johnson's promised 20,000 officers will begin next month.

It has not been confirmed how many officers TVP will get yet.
