VISITORS to Darlington town centre yesterday were greeted with a different beat to normal, and one person enjoyed it more than anyone.
A police officer from Durham Constabulary got into the full spirit of the Darlington Drum Festival, and was not afraid to show off their own rhythm.
This video, captured by festival visitor Amy Emerton, shows PCSO Benji Scott taking centre stage as the crowds enjoyed the African drum and dance display that was taking place in the Market Square.
Speaking to The Northern Echo, she said: "I loved the fact he joined in as you see so many police or PCSOs on duty that are so serious and don't even smile.
"I know it's a serious job but still I think it is important, especially round kids, that it's good to show that they are only human and that they are approachable and fun."
The Darlington Drum Festival is a family-friendly event celebrating rhythm, drumming and community within Darlington town centre.
The one-day festival took place on Friday and included live performances, drum circles and workshops where audiences of all ages and skill levels can learn and try various drumming styles.
Highlights included Junk Band Jam, Colombian Rhythms Workshop, West African Drumming Workshop, Drum Circle, and the Brazilian Maracatu Drumming & Dance Workshop.
