THE county council has insisted a new park and ride in Eynsham is needed – despite worries from some authorities that changes should be made to a plan.

The council wants to spend £32.6m on the new park and ride and an eastbound bus lane on the A40, part of an £180m project to improve the congested route.

West Oxfordshire District Council has told the county council that current plans do not make the most for the new Oxfordshire Cotswold Garden Village, north of Eynsham.

But a county council spokesman said: "A new park and ride, a new bus lane and better walking and cycling paths are consistent with what people tell us is needed to address congestion on the A40 and will help cut emissions by reducing the use of private cars.

"All the responses to the consultation including those from the city and district councils will be taken on board when we refine the proposed scheme.”

The A40 is often congested, with about 30,000 vehicles using it every day.

A consultation into it ended at the start of this year.

The county council has received negative feedback from parish councils, including Eynsham's.

That said information in an air quality report included in consultation papers was too complicated for people to understand.
