Trainspotters can get a glimpse of the Flying Sctotsman (and the Cotswold Venturer) this weekend.

The famous steam train will be passing through Oxford on Sunday August 25 during its circular route from Oxford Parkway.

The Scotsman’s trip is currently routed via Berkshire and Wiltshire and Didcot to Reading before taking a scenic route through Hungerford, along the Kennet and Avon canal, past the Vale of Pewsey before coming back along the Great Western Railway line through Swindon before heading back to Oxford.

It will leave Oxford Parkway at 12.54pm and it is due to arrive back to Oxford at 5.23pm.

Exact times have not been released for when the locomotive is expected travel through the vwrious towns as this has led to trespassing on the tracks and other unsafe areas on previous trips.

Trainspotters should stay on the train platforms and not put themselves at risk. when the Flying Scotsman travels through stations.

The 90-year-old train weighs more than 150 tonnes and uses 45lb of coal and 40 gallons of water a mile.

In 1928 it started transporting passengers between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh.

The Flying Scotsman was taken off the rails from active service in 1963 with the aim of preserving it for future generations to enjoy.

It was dismantled in 1995 before being restored by train enthusiast Dr Tony Marchington the following year at a cost of more than £750,000.

The Cotswold Venuturer will also be making its way through the town on Saturday August 24 during its trip through the Cotswolds.

This trip leaves London Paddington at around 7.40am where it will continue down the GWR main line until it leaves that line and takes the tracks to Kemble.

The Venturer will also be making a return trip to London Paddington and will arrive back at 8.07pm.
