FLAMES destroyed a flat in a south Oxfordshire village as firefighters battled to stop the blaze engulfing the rest of the building.

Four fire engines attended the block of flats in Wootton, near Abingdon, on Wednesday to tackle the first-floor fire, which was founded to be 'rapidly spreading' to the second floor and roof.
Sharing images of the flat's burnt kitchen Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service wrote: "Luckily the owner of the property and work men who had been in the flat were able to leave before the fire took hold."
It said eight firefighters used high pressure hose reels to put out the blaze.
