AN OXFORD restaurant has been closed after mouse droppings and flies were found in service areas.

My Sichuan, in Gloucester Green, has been shut by the city council since last Monday,  after inspectors found ‘widespread’ evidence of mouse infestation and ‘heavy fly activity’. The authority said they posed a significant risk of food contamination.

In a picture, flies are seen all over a bowl of beansprouts.

The city council visited the restaurant last Monday, September 2 and a formal closure order was granted officially by Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The council said the restaurant will stay closed until the infestations are controlled and environmental health officers are satisfied all risks to public health have been removed.

Oxford Mail:

Louise Upton, city council’s cabinet member for Healthy Oxford, said: “It is not acceptable that the manager of this restaurant let standards of pest control and hygiene fall this low.

"Thankfully a keen-eyed member of the public reported it and our environmental health service acted quickly and effectively to protect people’s health”.

In 2014, My Sichuan was reviewed by The Guardian's Jay Rayner, who called the food 'so compelling and such good value I can’t help myself'.

It is ranked 324th out of 404 restaurants in Oxford on Trip Advisor, with an average rating of 3.5 out of 5 from 177 revews.

My Sichuan Restaurant was awarded a Food Hygiene Rating of 3 (Generally Satisfactory) by Oxford City Council on May 3, 2018.

In 2017, firefighters were called to the restaurant after 'combustible waste' went up in flames.
