A FORMAL police funeral is being arranged for fallen officer PC Andrew Harper.

The 28-year-old newlywed was tragically killed in the line of duty, while responding to a call-out in Berkshire on the night of August 15.

PC Harper, who grew up in Wallingford and was based at Abingdon station, will be honoured at a service organised by Thames Valley Police.

The date and location has not yet been confirmed, nor if the service will be open to members of the public. 

A statement released by the force this afternoon said: "PC Andrew Harper’s family has confirmed that they wish for a formal police funeral to take place.

"We will continue to work closely with Andrew’s family so that their wishes are front and centre, and ensure that the funeral is a fitting tribute that honours our colleague Andrew’s strength, courage and bravery.

"At this time we are not able to confirm any further details of the arrangements but will do so when we are able.

"We would like to thank the public, the wider police family and our partners for all of their support and tributes to our colleague PC Andrew Harper."

Friends and family paid emotional tributes to PC Harper following his death, including his wife Lissie, who said her husband was 'the kindest, loveliest, most selfless' man.

PC Harper died from multiple injuries after being dragged along the road by a vehicle, while responding to reports of a burglary.

The tragedy happened in the village of Sulhamstead, and police launched a murder investigation.

A dedicated website has been founded to share memories of the officer, with photos and individual tributes from his family members.

An extract from Mrs Harper's tribute says: "Although we were married for only 28 days before you were cruelly taken away from me, my husband you were perfect.

"I will never ever stop loving you and I feel so grateful for the happiest 13 years of my life - our superman, our bodyguard, our light in the dark."
