A MAN has been jailed for multiple offences including assaulting a police officer in Abingdon.

Robert Zasada, aged 28, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to two years and six months’ imprisonment at Oxford Crown Court on Wednesday last week.

He was also banned from driving for two years.

Zasada pleaded guilty to one count of burglary, one count of aggravated vehicle taking, one count of driving without insurance, one count of driving without licence, one count of failing to provide a specimen of breath and one count of assault by beating of an emergency worker.

The charges relate to a reported burglary in Stonhouse Crescent, Radley, at about 2am on Monday, February 18 this year, during which a VW Sharan was stolen from outside the property.

Later that morning, the vehicle was involved in a road traffic collision in Radley Road, Abingdon.

The vehicle left the road and collided with a tree and lamppost.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Dan Tibble of South and Vale Area CID said: “This case highlights the dangers faced by frontline officers and staff when they are on duty.

“ I am pleased that the courts have dealt with the matter seriously and Robert Zasada has been jailed for two and a half years.”
