A GAS leak has led to the closure of a busy road near Abingdon this morning - and works could take up to two days.

The B4017 Drayton Road is closed between Drayton and Caldecott in Abingdon, as emergency repairs are carried out.

X2 services are currently unable to serve Drayton and Steventon but Thames Travel is sending out shuttle buses to serve the villages.

However, the bus provider also tweeted: "The situation concerning the gas leak appears to be more severe that anticipated, we have just been informed that the road will likely be closed for the next two days."

The blue line shows the shuttle operating on and off peak, and the green line at peak times only.

Passengers who get off at Abingdon and need to travel further can use their ticket on the X2 and the X3 service towards Oxford

According to the AA, both sides of the road have been closed since 5.15am this morning, between Stonehill Lane and Sutton Wick Lane.

One bus passenger tweeted: "Buses in and out of Steventon and Drayton appear to be affected too with numerous cancellations.

"Lots of unhappy people waiting at bus stops this morning."
