MORE money for barracks upgrades could be put in to support soldiers returning from overseas duties.
On Tuesday, Oxfordshire County Council looks set to approve a £100,000 fund for "improving community facilities" at bases like Dalton Barracks, near Abingdon.
Council leader Keith Mitchell said it was inspired by Army chief General Sir Richard Dannatt's calls for local authorities to do more for troops.
Mr Mitchell said: "The troops are our residents as much as anyone else. They are entitled to our support. The Government probably should fund it but I don't want to wait for them to do it."
If approved, the money could be used to upgrade the community hall at Dalton Barracks, home of the 3rd and 4th logistic support regiments.
Unit welfare officer Capt Steve Heath said: "This is a well-used hall by both our soldiers and families - and the local community. It was built more than 30 years ago and is beginning to look its age."
