MAJOR roadworks on the M40 are expected to increase traffic on the A34 through Oxfordshire later this month.

Motorists travelling to London are being warned of a diversion in place to avoid the roadworks on the link road between the eastbound M40 (Junction 1a) and M25 (Junction 16).

The link road will be closed over three weekends in January to carry out a £1.3m scheme to improve safety and reduce congestion.

The road will be closed at 10pm on Friday, January 11, until 11am on Sunday, January 13; 10pm on Friday, January 18, until 11am on Sunday, January 20, and 10pm on Friday, January 25, until 11am on Sunday, January 27.

During the weekend closures, drivers travelling towards London on the M40 from the Midlands are advised to leave at junction 9 at Wendlebury and follow the A34 down to the M4 and then back towards the M25.
