Festivities at Didcot Railway Centre this month culminated with a special engagement at one of the venue’s special Steam Into Christmas days last weekend.

Mitchell Pluck-Wyatt and his girlfriend Sammi travelled from their home in North Devon with their daughter Imogen, on their way to visit Sammi’s parents in Reading last Saturday (December 23).

They called in at the centre, with Sammi unaware what was about to happen. Mr Pluck-Wyatt then proposed in front of one of the engines.

Pictures show Mitchell kneeling with the ring in front of Sammi and her delighted reaction as their daughter looks on.

Frank Dumbleton, a volunteer and photographer at the centre said: “Mitchell and Sammi have been together for nearly 14 years now, having met in 2010. The volunteers at staff at Didcot Railway Centre wish them a lifetime of love and happiness. We think Imogen is going to make the loveliest bridesmaid.

“People have been dressing colourfully all in the spirit of Christmas at our events. We had 7,246 visitors during the nine days in December the event ran and every day fared to a positive response online with great reviews.”

To see out 2023, the centre will be running two final discovery days on Saturday, December 30 and Sunday, December 31. See the website for more details.

A Steam Day will follow on Monday, January 1. Here, trains will be operating on demonstration lines and allow visitors to take a step back in time and explore locomotive history.
