A male driver died this morning after his car was involved in a head-on smash with a lorry near Faringdon.
Police and paramedics were called to the A420 shortly before 7.10am.
The road was closed both ways between the A417 Park Road junction at Faringdon and the B4508 Majors Road junction at Watchfield, with traffic tailing back for two miles.
Police spokesman Claire Gourlay said: "Police were called following the collision between a red Suzuki Swift and a white lorry and the male driver of the car was declared dead at the scene.
"The lorry driver was not injured and was treated by paramedics for shock.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt Pete Jell, of Bicester traffic, on 08458 505505."
Miss Gourlay said drivers were now being diverted away from the crash site and traffic accident investigators are expected to be on scene for several hours.
