I note with interest Roger Tucker's comments on his murderous attacks on the inhabitants of his garden shed (Oxford Mail, July 16).
He writes of having decimated the green fly and blue fly, but makes no mention of the eradication of black fly, which is far more common in the gardens of Kidlington and therefore more of a pest.
Is this political correctness gone wrong, I wonder?
Furthermore, he claims that the mice he dispatched died happily on bacon or chocolate.
Does he not realise that the Government is trying to cut back on obesity levels and that to add to the corpulence of local rodents is hardly playing the game?
Mr Tucker mentions his destruction of a species that has played an important part in the language of America and England.
What would have happened to Hollywood if there had been no Arion ater, Limax flavus or Limax maximus crawling along the earth's surface, leaving a glistening trail?
Edward G Robinson could not have threatened to put a slug' into George Raft, or John Wayne asked for a slug' of whisky.
Rocky Marciano could not have slugged' it out, toe to toe, with Ezzard Charles for the world heavyweight boxing championship.
Furthermore, can Mr Tucker imagine taking his family out for a meal at an establishment called the Cabbage White' or Aphid and Lettuce'?
Without the common slug, a whole chain of licensed premises would have had to seek a new title.
Shame on you, sir.
