Oxford United have cancelled a bus service which took fans from the city centre to the stadium.

The club will not be running its 601 service in the new season, but the 602 route from Kidlington, Summertown and Headington will be saved.

In a statement issued by the club it said despite investing in subsidising the route the rising cost of fuel and travel means it cannot afford to keep operating.

Last season the 601 bus route lost the club more than £2,500. The Oxford Bus Company number 5 runs virtually the same route from Oxford High Street to Knights Road in Blackbird Leys.
