CRICKET: Pocket dynamo Justin Lambdon upstaged his big-htting teammates to steer Warriner (Bloxham) to a seven-wicket win over Burford in a high-quality Oxfordshire Under 14 League final.

Chasing Burford's 99-7, in which Lambdon picked up 3-19, Warriner were struggling on 34-2 after nine overs with key batsmen Lloyd Sabin and Jamie Coles caught off full tosses.

But then Lambdon took over and showed that finesse can be just as effective as power.

Playing inventive shots and running quickly between the wickets, he hit an unbeaten 43 to take Warriner to victory.

Earlier, Burford started confidently at over five runs an over with big hitting from Ross Barrett, Harvey Turner and Ryan Tinson.

But they lost wickets regularly as they posted what looked a below-par score.

Warriner will have to wait until September to try to complete the double with the Lord's Taverners Under 14 final against Magdalen College School, Oxford, held over until then.

Warriner missed out in the Oxfordshire Under 12 League pairs final as they went down by 17 runs to St Birinus (Didcot).

All seven St Birinus bowlers took at least one wicket as Warriner conceded ten dismissals, meaning they surrendered all 80 runs they scored, and ended up back at the 200 they started with.

Keiron Beasley took 2-7.

Knowing they only had to avoid losing wickets, St Birinus looked firm favourites until Will Stanley claimed two victims in consecutive balls to leave the Didcot school on 190.

On the hat-trick ball a diving stop should have led to a run-out, but the chance was missed.

St Birinus made the game safe off the penultimate ball as they finished on 217-4.

In the Oxfordshire Under 15 League semi-final, Burford beat Faringdon by eight runs.

George Seacole (30) led the way in Burford's 116-6 as Tim Hume took 3-12.

Hume then hit 51, but Faringdon fell short on 108-7 with Josh Agnew taking 4-15 to clinch a place against Bicester in the final, which will take place in September.

Burford will host Oxford in the Oxfordshire Under 17 Cup final on Wednesday, September 10, after the original clash was washed out with Oxford 26-0.

St Birinus host Warriner in the Oxfordshire Under 13 League final the previous day.
