An NHS youth worker is running the London Marathon to raise awareness of organ donation and promote being active post transplant.

Bicester resident Daley Cross, who works at the Churchill Hospital's Oxford Transplant Centre, has won a ballot place for this year's marathon.

He said: "I have decided to run for a charity that I am very heavily involved with."

He said the charity does "incredible things for the transplant community" and that it "only feels right I do this for them".

Mr Cross, a trustee for Transplant Sport, is part of the management team for the Great British Transplant team, and has spent more than 10 years being inspired by recovered transplant recipients.

He said: "If people can go through the process of a life-changing transplant with a smile on their face, then I can deal with some sore legs."

Donations can be made to the charity through Mr Cross' JustGiving page.

Transplant Sport's main aim is to increase awareness of organ donation.

They organise events across the UK to boost health, wellbeing, and active promotion of organ donation.

Mr Cross has attended various Transplant Sport events, meeting numerous "inspirational" people, both young and old.

He said: "Over the years we've sadly lost some inspirational people and I want to do this in their honour."

He added: "Please give any donation you can to allow this great charity to continue to run events for this community of people."
