Cherwell Larder and Climatarian Kitchen are preparing to relocate due to rent rises.

The organisations have been compelled to alter their operations due to heightened rental costs and because they aim to only open when it is essential, rather than always taking up the community hall.

It has decided to limit their Exeter Hall service to Thursdays only.

Meanwhile, they will operate from the WISH shop at 4 The Parade, Kidlington, on Fridays and Saturdays, offering the larder and a less extensive climatarian kitchen service.

They said: "We are saddened by the circumstances that have necessitated this change, and are concerned about how it will affect our incredible community."

Their services have been used by numerous residents, with more than 10,000 visits recorded from 895 unique Kidlington postcodes in the previous year.

Throughout 2023, more than 196 tonnes of food and 52 tonnes of non-food waste were saved from landfill through the Cherwell Larder Marketplace.

This is equivalent to more than 2.4 million car miles.

They said: "Rest assured we will continue our vital work in waste reduction, community building, and supporting the vulnerable."

Kidlington Parish Council informed the organisations that grant applications were necessary for continued discounted use of Exeter Hall.

In response, services were reduced to Thursdays and Fridays only.

Later, it was found that the rental cost for two days a week would amount to £1,000, and discounts would likely not exceed 50 per cent of that sum.

To meet these costs, the services reduced their desired rental schedule even further, requesting access to Exeter Hall only on Thursdays, and on Fridays during half term holidays.

The council endorsed 60 per cent of these costs, a total of £19,850.

While the organisation said it was "very grateful" for the support, it was £7,000 less than what they had anticipated.

By April 1, the organisations are required to vacate their on-site office.

Climatarian Kitchen will move off-site and will no longer manage the in-house catering for Exeter Hall.

Assistance with transportation will be provided by partners, Savona Foodservice.

The organisations have appealed for volunteers to help with the move and donations to support their community services.

Emily Connally, founder and managing director, said: "All people need food to live.

"When our doors are open, people can access food. They can access what they need to live.

"No matter why a person comes through our door, what we hear time and time again is how those visits improve their life.

"It does not matter where our doors are. It matters if they are open."
