Around 900 people took part in a charity run at the weekend to raise funds for Oxford Children's Hospital.

Now in its 23rd year, OX5 RUN was held at Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, with participants enjoying a pleasant Spring morning for the occasion.

Fourteen-year-old Giovanna Santos, a regular patient on Kamran's Ward due to a rare form of cancer, neuroblastoma, started the race.

Ms Santos, who goes by 'Gio', took part in the five-mile event with her friends and family, alongside multiple teams of families, hospital staff and members of the business community.

This year, the run looks set to raise more than £100,000.

The winner of this year's run was the youngest ever to take the title - 12-year-old Leo Blyton, who completed the run in 30 minutes and 41 seconds.

Mr Blyton, a member of Beth's Bees running team, is familiar with Oxford Children's Hospital, as his younger brother, Zac, received cancer treatment there when he was seven.

The first woman to finish the race was Anna Kelly, crossing the finish line in 32 minutes and 27 seconds.

Ms Kelly is part of the 36-member Oxford Vaccine Group team, which has participated in the OX5 RUN every year since it started in 2002.

The top individual fundraiser on the day was Chris Fulwell, who has raised more than £3,000, with donations still coming in.

Mr Fulwell's baby son is currently being treated for serious seizures at the hospital, providing him first-hand experience of the impact of fundraising proceeds.

The event raises funds for important facilities for the Oxford Children's Hospital, such as play areas, sensory equipment, and specialist medical technology.

Tamsin Rawlings from Oxford Hospitals Charity said: "We were blessed with the most beautiful morning at Blenheim and everyone brought such positivity to this very special event.

"It is so heartening to see new friends and old, coming together to support our wonderful Children's Hospital, we are incredibly grateful to all who took part and also our amazing army of volunteers who supported the event.

"Special thanks also go to Get Radio and Blenheim Palace for their wonderful support, Bicester Hotel Golf and Spa for the warm up and Aston James Clothing.

“And most of all to all the runners who help us make such difference to local children cared for by our amazing hospital teams”
