TWO men due to be sentenced for a string of attempted burglaries across Oxfordshire are still missing.

Johnny Cash, 23, Anthony Doran, 20, and Michael Ward, 21, were all found guilty of one count each of conspiracy to commit burglary and the theft of a 4x4 vehicle – namely a Polaris Ranger.

A jury heard on February 13 at Oxford Crown Court, that a string of properties across West Oxfordshire had been targeted for vehicle thefts on April 25, 2019.

Homes were targeted in Chipping Norton, Brize Norton, and Bicester.

However, Doran and Cash are still absconded and are not within the jurisdiction.

The trial went ahead without them.

The trio were due to be sentenced on Monday (March 25).

However, the defence barrister for Ward, Rosalia Myttas-Perris, had asked for an adjournment in order for a psychiatric report to be obtained for her client.

She said: “There are mental health concerns and we felt it was best to have them assessed before sentence.”

However, Judge Michael Gledhill rejected the application, responding: “Why has it taken six weeks to decide to apply for a psychiatric report?”

It was then noted by the defence barristers for Cash and Ward, Alan Walker and Wafa Shah, that their clients were still not within jurisdiction otherwise they would have been alerted that they had been arrested and were in custody.

Ms Shah said if Judge Gledhill was content to sentence them in their absence, a new date could be sent for the hearing.

The trio will now be sentenced on April 12 at the same court and it is expected to take at least an hour.

During the trial, the prosecution told the jury that the attempted burglaries were not an ‘amateur operation’ and that the defendants were ‘forensically aware’.

They hid their identities and wore gloves to avoid leaving DNA at the homes.

Some properties were broken into using screwdrivers while others had the patio doors smashed.

The prosecution said the offenders were targeting vehicles but a lot of other items were taken such as cash and handbags.

A fourth defendant, James Johnson, was not on trial as he had already pleaded guilty to his involvement in offences.

It is unknown whether Johnson has already been sentenced or will be dealt with at a later date.

During the trial, only Ward, of Balham Grove, Wandsworth, was present in the dock at court while the other two men, Cash, of Crown Meadow, Slough, and Doran, of Green Lane, Sutton, had absconded.
