There may be the Olympics, but domestic events, possibly discovering future stars, continue with this weekend's Oxford City Royal Regatta hosting a total of 500 compeititors.
City are staging a 1000 metre regatta on the Isis on Saturday and one of 500 metres the following day. There are 43 events on Saturday, accommodating 177 crews, and a further 40 events on Sunday, with 158 crews involved.
Local clubs involved include City of Oxford, Wallingford, Abingdon, and Oxford Academicals The Mixed Medley this year will be contested by City of Oxford, Bedford, Putney Town and a Dutch crew from Leiden, the winner receiving a set of four blades.
Racing in the regatta, which is sponsored by estate agents Hamptons International, runs from 8.30am to 6.30pm on Saturday and 8.45am to 5.30pm on Sunday.
