A man has died in a fatal house fire in Oxford, police confirm.

The blaze took place at around 2am 2am on Friday morning as police officers and firefighters were called to a house in Franklin Road in Headington.

A man in his 60s has been confirmed as a fatality in the fire with Thames Valley Police issuing a statement late on Friday afternoon.

Officers had earlier confirmed that a woman and a child had been taken to hospital as a result of the fire and were receiving treatment.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “One person has tragically died following a residential fire at a property in Franklin Road, Headington, in the early hours of this morning.

“We responded, alongside Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (Official) and South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to reports of a large house fire at just after 1.45am today.

“The fire has now been extinguished, but tragically, one person, a man aged in his sixties, has died in the fire and two others have been injured.”
