Proposals have been put forward to knock down several car-show rooms in Oxford into a new lab space.

Columbia Threadneedle Investments is bringing forward proposals for the redevelopment of the Johnsons Mazda and Hyundai showroom and offices at 234 Botley Road.

The emerging plans would see the redevelopment of the site for a new life science building including a publicly accessible courtyard space and café.

A statement from developers says the proposed site would “meet an identified need within Oxford”.

“We believe that there is the opportunity to make better use of this brownfield site by creating a new highly sustainable workspace with reduced car parking and a landscaping strategy that will improve the character and biodiversity of the area", it adds.

The developers are holding a public consultation until May 15 before submitting a planning application to Oxford City Council.

Their website will be updated with designed exhibition boards on May 1 to coincide with our webinar and public exhibition.

A webinar will also held for the local community to question the project team and provide feedback on the proposals on May 1 at 5.30pm.

There will also be in-person public exhibition at Savills, Wytham Court on West Way Botley on May 9 from 4pm to 7pm.

It comes after new plans for a five-storey city centre science lab were submitted for land at Beaver House and buildings at 39-42A Hythe Bridge Street in Oxford.

Under the plans, the existing 1970s Beaver House building, used as office space, would be demolished alongside the two restaurants next door.
