John McDonnell is speaking in Oxford Town Hall at 8pm on Thursday November 9th.

He is the only declared candidate so far to state that he will oppose Gordon Brown for the leadership of the Labour Party, when Tony Blair steps down.

John McDonnell has been MP for Hayes & Harlington since 1997, and is chair of the Campaign Group of Labour MPs. In the 1980s he was chair of Finance in the old Greater London Council and became Deputy Leader to Ken Livingstone.

His recent record is excellent:

Against the Iraq invasion
Against privatisation of public services
Against Trident

For an annual Land Value Tax, instead of council tax
For action on climate change
For the Trade Union Freedom Bill

There must be a full debate about future policies before a new leader takes over. That can only take place if there is a good left wing candidate to challenge Gordon Brown.
