Former Headington School rower and Beijing Olympian Katie Greves finished second in the historic Wingfield Sculls from Putney to Mortlake, writes Mike Rosewell.
Greves made a slow start which left her trailing in third, but her rhythm improved as she overook her Olympic crewmate Tina Stiller to finish in the silver medal position on the four and a quarter-mile course, behind international lightweight Sophie Hosking.
Action returns tomorrow with the Fours Head of the River being held from Mortlake to Putney, starting at 10.30am.
Leading the way for Oxford-shire are the men and women of Oxford Brookes, with 13 crews, followed by the Oxford men’s and women’s Boat Race squads with five crews apiece.
