SHERIFFS of Oxford have used different forms of transport for the annual round-up of animals illegally grazing on Port Meadow.
In April 1982, when this picture was taken, Ben Tannant came hurtling out of the early morning mist on a pony and trap.
The date of the operation is supposed to be secret, but as so often happens, it leaked out and many owners removed their horses from the meadow the previous day, avoiding a £25 fine.
Mr Tannant said afterwards: “It was a bit disappointing.”
