PUPILS at Woodstock Primary School conducted a traffic survey after concern that vehicles passing their school were a safety hazard. Alison Poulter and Susan Miller are pictured in June 1965 counting the number of cars, vans and lorries.

Children at Marlborough School are seen in the next picture learning to drive in 1970. Nine 15 and 16-year-olds were given lessons in the school playground, in school time. Headteacher Mr AG O’Hagan said it was important that young people knew how to handle “lethal weapons” before they were allowed on the road.

The last picture shows two members of Woodstock Primary School brass band in action in 1967. David Styles and Stewart Peake were among 11 pupils in the band formed by teacher Mrs D Calcott.
