A man who was stabbed outside a Banbury nightspot was in a serious but stable condition in hospital today.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses following the assault on Saturday morning in Pepper Alley, near Chicago Rock Café in Broad Street.

At about 12.30am, police were told that a man had been assaulted by another man, in the alleyway just outside the nightclub.

The 28-year-old victim received a number of stab wounds and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Det Insp Chris Tarrant, of Thames Valley Police, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are continuing to appeal for information to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened on Saturday morning.

"I would like to thank the Banbury community for their cooperation and assistance so far, but our investigations continue and we are actively pursuing every line of enquiry.

"I urge anyone who has further information to contact police immediately or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.

"We are stepping up patrols in the area today and we would like to reassure residents that we are doing everything we can to identify the person responsible."
