ABINGDON was in the pink yesterday as townsfolk gathered to fight breast cancer.

The Market Place was awash with colour for the day with shop window displays and face painting, as well as a visit by local Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist, Fabia Cerra.

Belly dancers and morris dancers also took to the streets to encourage about 1,000 visitors to part with their cash and help local charity, Against Breast Cancer.

Charity chief executive Patricia Leathem said: “This is the first time we’ve held this event, but considering how popular it’s been we’re hopeful of more in the future.

“It’s so important to cure breast cancer as it affects one in nine women.”

The event was held to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Ms Cerra, from Greater Leys, was at the event to give hand massages and paint nails.

A competition was held by retailers in the area to provide the most imaginatively-decorated shop window featuring pink.

The winner was florist Fabulous Flowers.
