OF COURSE Barack Obama (Mail, October 10) should have received the Nobel Peace Prize.
For United States voters to elect a black man with a Muslim background to be President of the world’s most powerful nation is a huge step forward.
Since then President Obama has cancelled the dangerous anti-missile system in eastern Europe, withdrawn US soldiers from Iraq, told the Russians he is serious about reducing numbers of nuclear missiles and has started to engage diplomatically with Iran.
It may take a little longer to achieve political settlements in Afghanistan and in Palestine/Israel. But at least Obama is trying and is serious about tackling climate change. Can we do it? Yes we can.
