BMW has complained to the Crown Prosecution Service that a judge was falsely told a teenage mugger worked at the Mini plant.

Carl Jameson was jailed for 27 months yesterday after robbing a Swedish tourist at knifepoint in Oxford and then holding up an American couple two days later.

During the hearing at Oxford Crown Court, Jameson’s barrister Stephen Parker told Judge Anthony King the 17-year-old had worked at Cowley.

Mr Parker said: “He started to get himself settled and he found himself part-time employment at BMW.”

But checks done by BMW showed Jameson had never worked at the plant, either for the company or its contractors, a spokesman said.

She added: “We welcome the opportunity to set the record straight that Carl Jameson has never worked at BMW Group’s Oxford plant.

“BMW is considering its position in relation to how it takes this matter forward with the Crown Prosecution Service.”

A police spokesman confirmed the police had told the CPS before the hearing Jameson, of Friars Walk, Oxford, had not worked at the plant.

BMW contacted the CPS yesterday about why Mr Parker’s statement had not been challenged, but has not made a formal complaint.

CPS spokesman Lucy Chapman said: “We are not seeking a clarification to the article printed in the Oxford Mail.

“As far as we are concerned, the article does not inaccurately report anything that the CPS stated in court.”
