Former Oxfordshire MP Boris Johnson has agreed to pay back £1,266 of expenses he claimed while he was a member of Parliament.
The ex-Henley MP, who quit the House of Commons after being elected Mayor of London last year, received the cash for council tax in 2004/05.
But an independent review of all expenses dating back five years, carried out by Sir Thomas Legg, ruled that Mr Johnson's claim broke the guidelines.
Mr Johnson reportedly received a letter ordering the repayment on Tuesday and returned a cheque on Wednesday.
His spokesman said: "It was an administrative error over tax. We think it was because it was claimed retrospectively. It was signed off by the fees office at the time, but on review Legg has decided it was not appropriate and Boris decided to pay the cheque and get on with life."
