A child is in a critical condition following a car crash just north of Kidlington this afternoon.

Police and paramedics were called to the A4260 near Sturdy’s Castle pub, at the junction for Tackley, at about 4.15pm following a head-on crash involving two cars.

An ambulance spokesman said the child, believed to be a boy under five years old, has been taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, with life-threatening injuries.

A man in his 30s suffering chest pains and a woman with head and leg injuries have also been taken to the hospital but their condition is unknown.

An elderly woman has also been taken to hospital but her condition is not believed to be serious.

The A4260 has been closed in both directions and all traffic is being diverted through Tackley.

The road is expected to remain closed until at least 8pm.

Police are investigating at the scene of the crash.

Anyone with information should contact police on 08458 505505.

It was the second time the road was closed in two days.

Yesterday, the road was closed after a vehicle hit a telegraph pole that led to fallen power cables between the A4095 Upper Campsfield Road and Langford Lane, Kidlington.
