BICESTER residents are being urged to put their weight behind a petition calling for NHS Oxfordshire to replace Bicester’s hospital.

Earlier this year the Save Our Community Hospital, SOCH, campaign launched the petition, which it plans to hand to the trust’s chief executive next year.

So far almost 8,000 people have added their names, but campaign leader Les Sibley wants to break the 10,000 barrier.

The NHS wants to build a new primary care centre and provide beds elsewhere, in a nursing home.

But protesters say they want a hospital with beds.

Mr Sibley said: “Bicester residents have strongly and publicly demonstrated that a new community hospital with in-patient beds and associated health care services, including respite and dementia care, are the main priorities and should be at the heart of any future health plans for Bicester.

The campaigners will be in Sheep Street on Saturday, from 10am to noon.
