As Oxford Mail readers get ready to enjoy the New Year festivities, TV Licensing is reminding people over 75 in Oxford to take advantage of their entitlement to a free TV Licence.

Research shows that it was not just cardigans and slippers that found their way into older people’s Christmas stockings this year, as up to 4 million people across the UK bought their elderly relatives the latest electronic devices, such as mobile phones, MP3 players and laptops.

With many of these gadgets now offering online access to TV programmes, people should be aware that they need to be covered by a TV Licence if they use any device to watch or record programmes as they’re being broadcast.

The good news is over 75s are entitled to a free TV Licence – and over 8,900 people in the Oxford area are already receiving this concession.

It’s now also easier than ever to apply for a free licence, thanks to a new online application facility on the TV Licensing website.

People applying for their free licence for the first time, or those aged 74 wishing to apply for a short term licence to take them up to their 75th birthday, simply need to fill in a short form at www.tvlicensing.co.uk/over75 Alternatively applicants can call 0844 800 5875 or write to TV Licensing, Bristol BS98 1TL, giving the name, address, date of birth and National Insurance Number of the person aged over 75.
