Police this evening appealed for witnesses after a 15-year-old girl was robbed in Oxford.

The girl was walking along Leopold Street, off the Cowley Road, at 7pm on Sunday, when she was approached by a man.

The man stood in her way and then pulled out a truncheon and demanded the girl hand over her purse, which she did, and he then walked off.

He is described as white, in his late twenties, 5ft 8in tall, of slim build and short, light brown hair and a thin face. He was wearing a dark blue or brown coat with a hood and buttons and baggy dark blue jeans.

PC Andy Reid said: “The girl was a little shaken by the incident but thankfully unharmed.

“I would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and seen this man, anyone who recognises this description or has any information regarding this incident.”

Anyone with information should contact PC Reid via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police Enquiry Line on 0845 8 505 505, or alternatively contact the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
