A WOMAN whose dying father was cared for at Sobell House Hospice in Oxford has organised a sponsored slim in his memory.

Pam Futter, from Wolvercote, and her husband Paul were joined in the slim by seven of his colleagues at Huntercombe Young Offenders’ Institution, near Henley. They lost more than 13 stone between them.

The slimmers presented £2,060 to the charity, with the £1,060 they raised themselves topped up with a £1,000 donation from Huntercombe’s charity fund.

Mrs Futter’s father, David Rogers, died in January last year, aged 82, after a long battle with throat cancer. He had received care at Sobell House’s day centre.

Then just two weeks later, Mr Futter’s father, Harry, also died.

Touched by the care Mr Rogers had received, the couple decided to do something in memory of their fathers and to help Sobell House.

Mrs Futter, who lost 1st 13lb over four months, said: “The day centre is so important to so many people. Raising the money and giving it in both of our dads’ names was a big thing for us.”
