Droopys Keegan looks a likely candidate for next year's Pall Mall after blitzing his rivals to equal Oxford's 450m greyhound track record.

Keegan scorched round the Sandy Lane circuit in Tuesday night's open races - run under the Secure Care sponsorship banner - to match the three-and-a-half year record with a sizzling 26.57 on going which was +20.

Sent off the 7-4 joint favourite with Slinky, Brian Clemenson's black and white dog pulled clear off Paul Young's charge Slinky in the latter stages to win going away by an impressive five lengths.

Hove handler Clemenson said: "I was delighted with his performance.

"He found it hard to learn the game when he first came over from Ireland, but he is progressing nicely and is certainly one to keep an eye on in the future."

Keegan is set to return to Oxford for a crack at the £8,000 William Hill Pall Mall in April.
