The Oxford Brookes University student represented England in the beauty pageant which was finally held in London on Saturday.

Miss Turkey, Azra Akin, picked up the Miss World title. The runner-up was Miss Colombia, and Miss Peru took third place. Miss Luan failed to make the last 20.

She said after the event: "I would not recommend doing it again if it went like this year. It's been one thing after another, it hasn't been the greatest experience."

Miss Luan said on the morning of the Miss World contest the girls were woken up at 5am, but not taken to the competition venue, Alexandra Palace, in north London, until midday.

She said: "It was absolutely ridiculous, it hasn't run smoothly at all."

The pageant had been due to take place in Nigeria, but a story in a local newspaper sparked riots in which over 100 people were killed.

Organisers decided to fly out the 90 contestants and hold it in England.

Miss Luan, 22, said that while she was in Nigeria she did not think the competition would go ahead because of the riots and threats.
