An Anglican curate from near Thame narrowly pipped a Roman Catholic priest from Didcot to the post in the BBC TV show Top Gear.

The Rev Antony Feltham-White, of the Bernwode benefice, won a time trial challenge set by presenter Jeremy Clarkson, who lives in Chipping Norton, to find the "fastest faith".

He beat Fr Simon Thomson, of the Church of England Martyrs, Didcot, a Buddhist monk, a rabbi, a Hari Chrishna member and an Anglican bishop. As viewers of the BBC2 programme saw, the winner was racing enthusiast Mr Feltham-White, who set up a motorsport group, Revelation Racing, when he was studying at theological college.

Fr Thomson was runner-up.
