Children from a Wallingford school visited the Oxford Mail headquarters as part of a project on newspapers.

The 33 children aged between eight and 10, from Fir Tree Junior School, were shown round the building at Osney Mead, Oxford, and introduced to the departments by Oxford Mail assistant editor John Chipperfield.

Teacher Sian Williams, who arranged the visit, said the children had looked at headlines, sub-headings, columns, formal and informal language, and everything to do with news and how it is presented as part of their project which ends with them producing their own newspaper.

Natalie Coleshill said she enjoyed learning about shorthand writing, which is used by reporters to make quick notes.

She said: "It was lots of fun having our photo taken and very interesting to see how a newspaper is done.

"We went to look around the room and got a sweet. I might be a newspaper lady."
