Pupils have organised a charity chess tournament to encourage more of them to visit the school library in their lunch break.

They are involved in a knockout tournament to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The tournament is organised by students and involves all year groups.

Staff have also been allowed to play and the competition has reached the semi-final stage.

Headteacher Elizabeth Gilpin said: "I am delighted to see chess taking off in such a big way as it helps develop logical thinking and promotes high achievement."
