The mayor of Woodstock, Gwen Mason, found herself arrested by police on the steps of the town hall.

Mayoral chains take on a new meaning

She had not committed any crime, but was among a group of people taking part in the Royal National Institute of the Blind jail and bail charity event.

Among others arrested by police and officials of the RNIB were Victor Scrooby, of Classic Eyes, Yvonne Fagan, of Stead and Simpson, and Simon Moore of the Chequers Inn, all in Witney.

Dressed in arrowed suits they were taken to Eynsham Hall where their fingerprints were taken and a charge read out.

They were kept in custody until enough bail money was found for their release.

Money raised from the event will help to fund the talking book campaign.
